Going Green Revolution Mills Studios is dedicated to the preservation of both historic places and the environment. Keeping the mill intact is one of the largest recycling endeavors in North Carolina. If the mill were to be bulldozed, its destruction would result in countless tons of construction debris heaped into local landfills. By becoming a part of the community, tenants increase public awareness about the project and preservation.
The mill also advocates recycling and uses recycled materials in its rehabilitation, such as the granite floors which were made of scrap from granite counter tops. As with many community issues; tenant help is needed to decrease the waste produced by the mill. If everyone does their part and recycles reusable materials, together we can ensure the beauty of the mill and the environment.
As a community, the Mill depends on tenants to help in these efforts. By remaining aware of new environmentally friendly developments, and taking individual responsibility in the recycling program, tenants can help to conserve the world's resources.
Efficient Electricity
As some of you may have noticed, the lights in the hallways are no longer turned on at all times during evening hours. These lights have been equipped with motion sensors which automatically turn them on when any hallway movement is detected. By simply leaving the lights off when they are not being used, the mill is saving electricity and other resources.
Recycling Revolution
Reusing resources rather than disposing of them is one way in which everyone can contribute to conservation. Starting immediately tenants will be asked to separate recyclable materials from regular trash and put them in clearly marked recycling containers. Tenants are responsible for providing their own containers and setting them out on Tuesday nights for pick up. These containers will be emptied by the cleaning crew into large recycling bins outside the building. Glass must be placed in a separate container. All other recyclable items can be mixed.
